Hi,

 

I would like to export the different types of toposolids I have to different layers in CAD. I see there is no way to export family types to different layers, but I was hoping I could do this using the toposolid material finishes as there is an export category for that. So far I can only get the surface patterns to come up as their own layer, but I would like the layer to be determined by the finish and be named with the finish as well. Is this possible? The settings in the image don't seem to change anything in the DWG file. Layer names in CAD are just C-TOPO-1, C-TOPO-2, etc.

 

Something like: C-TOPO-{insert material finish here} to get the layer name C-TOPO-Concrete Pavers

Look at the Add/Edit Modifiers section for DWG export settings. You could add the Workset modifier and then associate each kind of topo to a different workset. Then the export will add the workset name to the layer name for the topo layer/category items. You should also use the third (bottom) option for Layer Export Options: Export all properties BYLAYER, and create new layers for overrides. If you override the appearance of each topo in the view you export that option will create a different layer for each one because they appearance is different than the default settings require (with or without using worksets as a way to identify them as different).

Thanks Steve! I looked at the modifies but they don't relate to the type of information I want to show in CAD layer names. The custom options only seem to allow you to add the same information to a bunch of layers but not a parameter or type name. It would be tedious to put each toposolid type on it's own workset and that's not typical practice in our working models so it would have to be done each time we want to export to DWG. Unless i'm misunderstanding how it works. 

 

I was hoping that the modifiers could actually read a parameter or material so I could get a layer in CAD that is something like C-TOPO-Concrete Pavers. Concrete pavers being the type of toposolid or material finish.

Keep in mind, Revit was never designed to just be a better way to make DWG files😊

Ultimately if you need something organized in a particular way in the DWG file you'll have to consider doing that in AutoCAD itself. For example, we use a script in AutoCAD to revise the color assignments of layers Revit creates when exports are required. A batch file runs a "headless" version of AutoCAD and calls the script so it can be done with minimal user effort. In our case the company use Clarity software to run automation overnight and that's just one of many tasks it deals with for us.
