Importing topo survey data

Hi, problems with Revit again!

I have been given an autoCAD survey drawing with contours shown at the correct elevations.

I have put all the info I want for the toposurface onto one layer and moved the CAD drawing origin to close to the survey data. (To make it easy for Revit!)

The import part of the process went OK but only about 13 points are picked up by Revit when I 'Select Import Instance'. My research suggests that all the contour lines at least should be picked up at some point. As you can see from the above most of the contour lines are either above or below the surface.

Has anyone got "the answer" as to why this is the case?

Make sure all of the proper layers are selected for creating import. You need to select the major and minor contours as well as any other relevant labels by your civil.

The acid test is to go through your DWG and make sure that the major and minor contours are on the right layers.

I tried this a number of times selecting from the likely layers. The drawing has some mis-layered items so they were easily dismissed but still it did not work so in the end I ignored station points and labels and just selected the contours which were on two layers, put them on one layer, wblocked them and used that to import with the results shown in my first post.

Make sure you DO NOT check Current View Only box when importing CAD file.

OK - here is how I have attempted to duplicate your problem (and mine worked out perfectly, though it is also trying to kill my machine now.....) linked the DWG, went to Massing and Site tools, and Create from Import>>Select Import Instance.

Is that what you did?

I think in the end it was because I was importing a survey in metres and mistakenly told Revit it was in millimetres. I don't understand why it didn't just import a very small topography but then I'm an AutoCAD user and still haven't got used to a program that thinks it knows better than me - even if it does.

It worked OK when I got the units matching.
