Import/Link Sketchup and face smoothing

I just want to make sure whether or not there is a way to make smooth surfaces from Sketchup imported to Revit with smooth surfaces and not facetted.

This is what I got - right Revit and left Sketchup

this is the product if you like to try it out yourself.

I got better luck with OBJ, but I am investigating what can be done with SKP

there is a Revit download option.... if your opening it in Revit, why don't you down load that one instead of the Sketchup model. it looks good on my PC.

I know. This particular family looks especially good in RFA format.

But I am investigating the behavior of SKP imports and looking for ways to control how to present the 3d models.

not much you can do from what i understand with a Sketchup model. i have had some luck bringing a SKP into FormIt and saving it as a AXM and then Linking the AXM into Revit. see the example below....

The top one is the RFA, the bottom one is the SKP opened in FormIt and saved to a AXM.

This is more than "had some luck"

This is a breakthrough 🙂 (and so typically Revit: One has to bend and tweak to reach the goal)

Great work @hmunsell !

Benefits of the method you are suggesting:

* Mesh comes in with smoothed faces

* Mesh comes in UV-mapped!

* Mesh keeps textures (not so critical, but rather convenient)

* When exporting to Twinmotion, each individual sub-element is intact! (unexpected bonus!)

Results in Twinmotion

And finally, this unexpected thing - you can access all the different sub-elements which can be good-to-have.

While the direct SKP-import is just one single object.

NICE...! I'm glad it worked for you. and now you have a new "improved" workflow using FormIt 😁.  I've been a fan of  FormIt for a while now because I can take the model back and forth from Revit as I'm tweaking my "massing" for an object.
