Import IFC file into Revit / Families not showing /own instance for each element

Hello everybody,

When I open my IFC file in Revit, I have a problem regarding the families.

1) Each element gets its own family with its own instance

2) I'm not able to edit the family of this walls (grayed out when I click the wall)

So my questions are:

1) Which IFC parameter is determining the revit family type ? For example I want my walls to belong to the basic wall family : Generic - 200mm. Which information is needed to map my ifc elements to this family? Which kind of Psets are needed for this?

2) Why is it not possible to alter the families from the imported elements? If this was able I could possible just manually change all the walls to a certain family.

I'm already aware that IFC import into Revit isn't a easy trip.

Thanks in advance,

Andreas

Are you able to TAB-Select the IFC Wall?

How was the IFC created?

Hey @barthbradley

I'm able to TAB select the different walls, but I can't actually select similar walls. I guess due to the fact they all belong to different families? I'm a novice user of Revit so I hope I'm doing it correctly.

I did the IFC mapping in FME 2020 after I did some changes to the model.

I have uploaded a .txt example file with the walls problem. It wouldn't let me upload the  .ifc file itself.

Compress your file(s). You should be able to post the compressed file.  Please do not use WinZip.

I uploaded the .ifc file as a .rar file.

Hope you can have a look at it.

Thanks in advance,

Be happy to, but I cannot open your RAR file. Can you post it another way?

Hey @barthbradley,

I look at any other options, and you did say no to use zip files, but I don't see any other way to post the .ifc file.

So here is the zip file. Hopefully this works.

Kind regards,

Andreas
