Hi,
probably a beginners question but is it possible to link documents (e.g. PDF Docs or Word docs or even pictures) to objects (e.g. a Wall or a slab).
Just as 1 example - attach a picture or a document to a slab and the document contains information about the required reinforcements.
I am not talking about the import of a PDF as background layer.

Thanks for the answer in advance.
Best regards

typically we use PDF's as a reference only link

once the reference is no longer necessary we remove it from the model.

all relevant information would have been transferred into the project.

images can be applied in schedules to support families without impacting the actual view display

hyperlinks can be part of families and projects.

we try to minimize links or other outside influences within our project models if possible.

If there is any information shared that is of value please give Kudos

I've said in multiple places now that Autodesk would do well to create a more interactive viewer for Revit to use in the field as the use of physical drawings dwindles and AEC professionals use digital means of reading drawings. Rather than using PDFs, a viewer would allow for a user to tap on a door, wall, or anything else and have a window pop up that shows any relevant information about it.

Autodesk is stuck thinking about how to incorporate Revit in yesterday's construction world rather than tomorrow's world.

If you want to create only a hyperlink from a Revit Element to an other document, then proceed similar with the : URL parameter:

  • first, be sure the document you want to refer to is placed in a Cloud Base Storage ( Google Drive for instance)
  • In Revit create a new Shared Parameter  - Type of Parameter: URL and then add it to Project Parameter assigning it to desired Categories
  • open in Google Drive the File that contains the document and right click on it : choose Get Link , then Copy Link and Done
  • back in Revit , paste the Copy Link into Parameter value

What you ask is a nice feature to have. Consider posting it to the Ideas forum.

I believe the same can be done with a standard Family Parameter. No need for a shared parameter here.

Such as Assembly Code field.
