IFC file not updated

IFC file not updated

I have Revit project (2019 version) with a IFC file loaded from a third party. They send a new update of the IFC file and I want to load it in my project by: Manage Links > IFC > Reload From.

The problem is that the IFC file is not properly updated.

For example: A column was drawn on the left and the third party changed it by drawn it on the right instead of the one on the left. Loading this new IFC into the model let's me see both columns.

How can I fix this problem? It's also not possible to delete the link and load it in again. The same problem show up. The third party did show me the version on his computer and everything was alright.

Hi @Anonymous

I experiencing a similar problem at the moment.

But in my case it doesn't update IFC at all. I have the issue with third-party IFCs as well as with large IFCs created from Revit (e.g. more than 15mb)

Were you able to solve your problem in any way?

I tried to reproduce the issue on empty project, tried that on several PCs and result is the same.

I have such folder structure:

root
- ifc_v1
- - file.ifc
- ifc_v2
- - file.ifc
- project.rvt

Before each run I remove old "*.ifc.rvt" cache files and logs from folders with ifc

What I do:

1. Create new revit project without a template (project.rvt)

2. Link a new third-party IFC into the project

3. Go to "Manage links" and with "Reload from" select a new location (ifc_v2/file.ifc - ifc file name is the same)

- on this step links isn't updated. Revit just isn't reacting on "Reload from" command.

4. (extra) if I try to import another IFC on this step - Revit does nothing (even ifc created with revit)

@Anonymous It would be great if you could try this scenario in your infrastructure to understand the problem.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you send us the files and diagnostic data to test further?

Please see: Revit - Collecting and sending diagnostic data to Autodesk Technical Support

You can choose to send us this in a private link if you'd prefer, by sending me a direct message.

We are experiencing the same issue. Was this resolved?

Hi! I couldn't find a good solution to reload problematic IFC links yet.

I am solving it in such way if it happens:

  • Create empty project
  • Link an IFC there so a new .ifc.rvt file will be created
  • Replace old .ifc.rvt (and .ifc to be sure) with newly generated file
  • Open a project, where the IFC was liked before

I can see that the problem can be in lack of memory. I found out that it is important to have enough RAM or Processor resources. That is why I am creating an empty instead of using existing one. But it can be only my personal impression of the process.

Hope it will help.

The problem is still there. Ifc files are written to BIM360, so that revit users can link them. In large projects, the update of the ifc files often does not go well.
Is there a constructive solution for this?

I had the same issue, and it was solved by:
1- Creating a new rvt project

2- Link the ifc file

3- Export it as a nwc
