If best practice is to always open the central model, then why not point to it?

If best practice is to always open the central model, then save a local copy, then why not point to it on opening the app? 

Why doesn't Revit show the last several central models on opening?  Since the app has to be directed to where it should first open – why not expose that process?  The software offers the users the last several (local) models – but not the central model?

The recent file screen is really an HTML Page...so it functions differently from Revit itself.  Personally I disable that page completely so people don't open their recent local files.

Granted that avoids the potential issue of opening an out of date local copy, but I guess I'm irritated that Revit can't just offer the last several central files that had been saved, and avoid having to dig 10 layers through the server structure to find them. 9 time out of 10 one is working on the same model for consecutive days, no?

Revit should be opening the default location for user files, which is specified in the File Locations in options.  Unfortunately this is the location for locals, so yes, I understand.  For deployments I usually add the upper folder before the projects in the Favorite File bar since usually this is a user by user functionality.  Such as we arrange by year so I have 2018, 2017, 2016 etc...that way it makes the search a little bit easier.  I also drag over the project folders I frequent the most depending on file naming.

You do know that you can add shortcuts to the left hand column of the open dialog box, right?

Add a few recent project folders to the shortcut panel.
