Identical Sheet Numbers For Multiple Sheets

Okay I'm gonna throw you all a curve ball. Instead of helping me fix something, I need you all to tell me issues this theory could potentially have:

We are all aware that Revit will not allow Identical sheet numbers across multiple sheets however I recently saw a cheat around this by adding ALT "blanks" to the end of a sheet number.

All three of these will read as an A4.11 and Revit will not see them as Identical. We've worked out the issue with View References, Sections, and Elevations by adding in sub number callouts along with the sheet number however I still feel like this will have potential backlash and would like to find as many reasons as possible to not do it this way so that I can present that information before the project starts. 

Has anyone else used this method before? and are there any repercussions that you can think of that might occur?

I think the legal ramifications of issuing multiple sheets with the same number, would be enough to put me off, Architects already face enough risk, why add more?

To throw this back to you, I can't think of a single reason why you would want multiple sheets with the same number.  Do you mind sharing the reasoning for doing it?

The project has 3 Phases and we have typical sheet numbers for certain sheets. A4.11-A4.19 are typically used for Architectural Floor Plans. The Architect is wanting to stick to those numbers across the 3 phases and release it all as one set.

Having said that I completely agree with you and to me it would seem much less confusing to just have different sheet numbers.

Absolutely agree, I can imagine someone printing the set then trying to collate them and getting them all confused...

I would be inclined to add a prefix or suffix to the Sheet Number to identify the Phase.

By making the second half of the Sheet numbe 100 series numberring rather than 10 series you could keep your set delineation and add the phase.

I offered the solution of adding .1 .2 or .3 as a suffix to the sheet number and hope that's what will be settled on. as of right now the phases will be put as a sub letter.

you can also create a separate model for the 3 phases and control the sheets only in those phase specific models

working model 1 phase 1 views only

working model 1 phase 3 views only

sheet model 1 with linked model 1 sort views in browser to organize only phase 1 sheets and views

sheet model 2 see above for Phase 2

sheet model 3 see above for phase 3

total model for the project (4) 1 working model 3 sheet models.

removes the confusion within 1 model but "yes you do need to manage which model" is current.

Personally I would add a - phase * on the end just for clarity?

Unfortunately, I don't know the exact translations to English (not my native language), but I'll try.

OK, one model, one main file (with xrefs), 5 architectural sheet sets in the main file.

1. Masonry plans and sections with tagging + some constructional and materials calculation schedules.
2. Facades and schematic plans with windows tagging + related schedules.
3. Finishing plans with rooms, doors and floors tagging + related schedules.
4. Schematic plans with details tagging, crosslinked to related detailed sections, placed on corresponding sheets.
5. All of the above, but only for apartments (1-4 are only for public/tech accessed/viewed rooms, windows etc.).

Every sheet set has a unique number within a project (АР1-АР5).

Every sheet has a unique number within its sheet set - starting with 1 in each sheet set.

All of the above is obligatory and isn't subject to discussion (federal+local regulations).

Now, attention to item 4 above. Hmmm... one picture is better than 100 words.

And this is just a single example.
