I want to use a rectangular void rotated in two planes to cut another rectangle. How is it possible?

Hi, 

I want to use a rectangular void rotated in two planes (45 deg rotation in section and and 23.2 rotation from plan) to cut another rectangle - see image of how I'd achieve in Sketchup. Id like rotated box 1, to cut box 2. 

Any way to do it in a revit family?

It's not as straight-forward as one would like. What I do: create a Section for one angle. Open that section. Create a refplane with the second angle. Give the refplane a name. Create another section aligned with that refplane and set the refplane active. Now place your family on the active refplane.

Does this work for creating a void to cut another shape in a family?
As far as I'm aware, geometry created in one family cannot be used to cut geometry in another.

Hello!

Yes, this method can be used in the Family Editor as well. You can rotate a void element while in the Family Editor, but I don’t recommend it. You may need voids with different angled rectangular shapes, so creating a default void family and rotating it in model environment is the best option.

Additionally, while in the Family Editor, you cannot cut one family with another. To cut a family, you need to create a void element.

If i understand well , this is too easy ,use two void .

I forgot its shape in the middle of work, so it took a little longer 😂🤣😅:

An example where the two shape keeps quadrilaterals.

For the "cut" shape, lock three sketch lines to reference,

lock the two unconnected endpt to reference,

and then draw the last sketch line.
