how to use the rft files for title blocks

Of some strange reason the title blocks coming from the box are in template file format.

How can these be used or is it just another way to say that revit is only for the few specialists and the rest of us should keep distance?

Revit provides two types of files related to titleblocks:

1. Insert > Load family > Titleblocks : these are .rfa files, families of titleblocks with standard sizes, that you customize for your office, starting from a sample file that already contains text, lables, and an Autodesk logo.
   
   
2. File (or Big R) > Titleblock : these are .rft files, templates with standard sizes for you to save as .rfa files and start creating titleblock families from zero.

No, Revit is not only for a few specialists, and most Revit users can understand how to make a titleblock in Revit.

Titleblocks are loaded into projects as family files RFA.  The RFT files you are seeing are family templates for the different sheet sizes. The workflow is to make a titleblock family from one of these RFT files and then load the resulting RFA family into your project as a titleblock.

Add in linework, graphics, text, labels, that your organization requires in a titleblock

Save as an RFA

Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Open to one and all.
