How to show opening which is above view range

Hi All,

I have a case where I am not able to show in layout plan the ventilator as its placed above my view range value.

Is there any way, where I can show this ventilator along with other opening in same layout?

Opening (as in Floor opening) are different that Ventilators (as in equipment - ie: a Family); however, they can be treated similarly if you model floor openings as Families (example: a face based or Floor based generic model with a void to cut host)

OPTION 1:

Use plan regions (works if you are applying it to a couple of locations around the building but not if you wish to use everywhere in the model and at every window above cut plane)

OPTION 2:

Use an invisible Model Line in the family and associate its length with a parameter length parameter you can control in the project. When extending the length of this line, you will force cut it even when it is above the cut plane and make it show in plan view.

For this to function neatly, you might need to introduce some minor adjustments to the family graphics (family editor), such as hiding 3D geometry in PLAN and RCP and replace those with 2D detail lines or detail components (example to show dashed or dotted instead of solid lines)

OPTION 3:

Use symbolic lines in the family or a nested detail item (uncheck the option visibile when cut)

OPTION 4:

Take advantage of the view rang and the different family categories behavior. Some family Categories will show in plan views even when they are above the cut plane (BUT within the primary range [5]  ie: fall in the space between the cut plane [1] and the top plane [2] - refer to image below). These categories are:

  • Generic Models
  • Casework
  • Structural Columns
  • Windows

You might say but ventilators are neither of the above. True; and in such cases you would model the geometry of the ventilator as a shared generic model and nest it into another Family with a category such as mechanical equipment) - Otherwise, you can still work with option 1 mentioned above

Apart from the family category, the View Discipline plays a factor with respect to graphics. The view discipline also plays a role in whether the view range and its cut plane control the display of elements in plan views
