How to show joint lines

Hi,

I've created precast wall units using the component family; see family attached.

When I place the units 'touch tight' the joints do not appear on plan view; what can I do to ensure the joint lines are shown? The "Linework" doesn't work and there's no option of disallow join.

Thanks for reading.

I can't open the family at the moment but you can try one of the below:
- change the family to a different category such as generic models
- draw symbolic line on plan in the family at the edges

It is a structural foundation category. Use Unjoin Geometry otherwise use a different category which doesn't have this behavior.

Alternatively, Considering that you want to show them in 3D

  • Option 1: Add Model Lines and lock them to the edges of the extrusion
  • Option 2: Convert to Parts...similar to the Precast extension.

Unjoin geometry works perfectly fine at my end see the GIF in Previous reply...Converting to Parts remains the neater solution for precast elements

Why not just change the Category?

Yeah, I didn't notice @ToanDN's post.  It's hard to notice anybody else's posts when you are participating. Your posts always over-shadow and smother all others - especially when you go GIF on us.  But, I did see yours and immediately think "My God! That sounds like an awful lot of unnecessary work! The guy's probably paid by the hour."   😉

Hmmm...poor sight? Must be old age or desperation

The gif was like 20 seconds 🙂 some users deserve 20 sec of your time. Or don't they?

Besides, instead of spending 10's of back and forth questions and replies which spins their heads around, why not spend 20 secs and do something efficiently?

Stop defending yourself, @RDAOU.  It ain't pretty.  It never is.  Let it go.

BTW: my contribution included a screenshot that illustrated HOW to change the Family Category.  This information has been valued by many, many "OPs" over the years who had no idea that this was a capability.  So, I'm okay with my contribution here - whether you like it or not.

Sorry but who mentioned your contributions? I thought we were talking about a 20 secs gif which you thought is billed/paid by the hour!

Anyhow the op fixed the issue ... time to move on

You're misreading. This isn't about your GIF. This is about the workflow your GIF is showing.  The "billed/paid" comment was just a joke meaning that unjoining all the Families would take time to do.  Changing the Category, on the other hand, would eliminate the need to do this clean-up work.  Get it?

It takes less than 5 seconds to unjoin multiple...less than 2 secs to convert to parts...as previously stated its about efficiency. But yeah sure you can spend hours unjoining and bill that 🙄

Please do consider moving on to a new post...otherwise if You feel like chitchating send ummm Toan a PM 🙂
