Hi

We want to select multiple elements from linked file by using rectangular selection from Revit API.

we are able to pick multiple elements by using Pick Object method. but we want to select the elements by rectangular selection programmatically in Revit 2019.

Kindly suggest on this.

Regards,

Pravin

i don't think you will be able to. At least not with a selection window.

Hi @Pravin_Lande. Programming questions are best asked here.

You can not programmatically do actions that can not be done in Revit. If I'm not mistaken, in Revit you can not select elements of a linked model using rectangular selection. Only using Tab. Therefore, there is no way to select elements of a linked model by rectangular selection using the API.

Best regards, Pavel Plotitsyn.

VisionREZ for Revit has a tool that selects everything from a link that is visible in a view and copies it to the host. So I know selection of multiple items is possible in the API at least in that case.

I would like to see this capability added to revit. Or at least allow the ability to allow the use of the selected all instances tool. Would make copying huge extents of beams and columns much quicker.

For example. Revit won't let me copy monitor the beams and columns here as they are sloping. I can't group select in any way, so I have to individually pick every single beam and column... Not very efficient.

In the mean time, while you wait for your request to be granted, You could go into the linked model and copy them from there instead of through the link.

I would very much like this capability in native Revit. Please make this possible.

New feature requests are in the Ideas forum. You might find this one is already suggested. If so, you can vote for it. If it's not there you can start a new thread and hope for the best.

Wish this was possible. Sadly there is no way to select elements in links without tab+select, even in schedules. However, you can still isolate them using filters, which might make the selection process easier.

Ya know, window selection of elements in links is possible in the Copy/Monitor tool. Maybe you all can utilize that for whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish with this selection. I'm pretty sure some of you want to copy/paste which Copy/Monitor can accomplish for some categories with some added benefits if you want them.

I wonder what you all want to do with this selection. Revit may have ways of meeting your needs. At a minimum, there may be workarounds.
