Would you share this family to let the community check it out? My thoughts so far would be, maybe there is some sort of space saver in place that has its own sub category? What does it look like in other view types?

It's not typical. What is it? Select one of them  and look at its Properties.

Or maybe you can identify it by looking in the Object Styles and seeing if there is a Category uses Red Projection lines.

That looks like the clearance zone or clash detection component added to MEP families. If that is what it is you usually should be able to switch it off

  1. Either by a visibility parameter which is added to the family (select it and check if it is available either on the properties palette or in the type properties)
  2. Or by un-checking a specific subcategory which that clearance zone is using
    • In such case you need to edit the family and check the Category/Subcategory of the clearance zone and/or its borders
    • Then in the project >> go to visibility graphics and switch off that subcategory

Looks like a clearance zone or no fly zone... I would simply create a vis param if one already isn't created and turn it off if you don't want to see it.

To untick the Category, go to View Visibility & Graphics Overrides, as I showed in the first Screenshot.  To understand what colors are assigned to what Categories, go to Object Styles, as I showed in my second Screenshot.

...both under the Imported Categories Tab.

...if you  continue to insert and use content created in AutoCAD and other third-party software, their Default Graphics Display (e,g, Color, Line Weight. Pattern, etc. ) will generally be listed under the Imported Categories Tab of Object Styles, and View Visibility and Graphics Overrides under Imported Categories Tab will be where you would go to override these defaults in a particular View - or turn them OFF entirely in the View . FWIW.
