How to make sections visible in section views ?

Dear forum members,

This is another problem in the category : “How to make X visible ?”

I am using Revit 2018. Offline help is not working and online help is working poorly.

I am trying to make XREFS for Autocad of all pertinent plans of a building to do measurements. Those plans are all floor plans, elevation views and some sections. Last time I drew all the sections in Autocad myself. That is a lot of work, since if you add a section view, that requires adding the section to all floor plans and about half of the section views and elevation views.

 Sections in Autocad.PNG

Part of section view with sections drawn in Autocad.

In principle I should be able to export all those sections from Revit, which should be much faster than drawing them myself. The only drawback is that I would need to decide beforehand what section I will use.

However, I forgot the most important drawback : Revit is uncoöperative. I can get the sections to show in some section views, but not all. I have been meddling with view templates, filters and section types.

Does anyone have ideas ?

 "Orient to View"?

Ah, you're talking the other way around. Revit to AutoCAD.  Export to DWG not working for you?

Only sections within the view range of the view show their mark on that view.  You can manually add a Section and choose Reference other view to place the section mark on the view that links to a live section.

I haven’t tried yet for this project. However I would be surprised were the sections to appear when I export the views.

ToanDN : “Only sections within the view range of the view show their mark on that view.”

What does it mean for a crossing section to be in the view range of another ? Some that are partly within the view range are visible, while others are not.

ToanDN : “You can manually add a Section and choose Reference other view to place the section mark on the view that links to a live section.”

Why would I want to place the section mark on the view that links to a live section ?  What is a live section ?

How can I choose reference other view for existing views ?

I tried it for a new section , which results in an empty view, which is not what I want. Edit 1 : somehow that new created section changed and now appears to be linking to the view it is referencing. That is still not what I want.

I managed to make my views visible in each other by setting the scale to 1 : 50. However, some views made by the architect were also visible on other scales. How ?

Edit 2 : I think I found it. A section or section view has the property ‘Hide at scales coarser than’, which for some reason is by default at 1 : 50. That made my sections invisible in views of coarser scale.
