How to hide lines

Anonymous

Hi,

I'd like to hide the three types of lines in point at with red arrows in the attached picture. I'd in essence don't want to see the black lines where different walls connect, and the lines I used to build my model.

use :Modify>  View > Linework (LW) and choose Invisible Line. Click on the Line you want to hide (usually you'll have to click  twice because there two edges from two surfaces that come together)

Use the Linework Tool on the Modify Tab. Make Invisible Line.

For the wall connection, use the Join Geometry tool. If this doesn't work (sometimes it doesn't), try using the Wall Joins tool to see if another join condition will make that line disappear.

For the green lines and black lines, which subcategory of Lines are those? Room Separation Lines? Or are they Reference Planes? Find out what they are by selecting them, then go to your Visibility/Graphics menu, find those items (to hide a specific subcategory of Lines, go to the Model Categories tab, click the + next to "Lines," then uncheck the subcategory). Reference Planes are in the Annotation Categories tab of the Visibility Graphics menu.

I can't tell if the black lines on your toposurface are actually Lines or if they show a division between some part of your topo, such as a Split Surface or Subregion. What are they?

...and don't use Model Lines ( the green ones) in Floor Plans , unless you want to see them in all your Views. If you want o see the Lines only in the View you draw them , then use Detail Lines ( from Annotate)

Thank you, your solution has been the most useful. I was able to delete the green lines by going to the Visibility/Graphics menu.

Now, I tried the two options that you suggested for the wall and neither worked. Also please note that the black lines on the floor are because I made two foundations as the picture shows. I also attached another picture of how I made those walls whose joins have that black lined connection. PLEASE NOTE THAT I BARELY USE REVIT OR ANY SOFTWARE SIMILAR TO IT, SO IT'S VERY LIKELY THAT I'M DOING THINGS IN A SILLY WAY. Last pic I got by using the orbit tool and moving my mouse. Just wanted to put that to show that's how I want it to look. PS: I know if I just do a render, those lines will not be visible. We just happen to like this specific view (3D) and not Perspective 3D for instance.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I tried what you suggested and the solid lines become dashed but don't disappear. And I didn't get your other comment. As I stated in my other reply I don't use Revit very often.

That's ok, we're here to help! And you will get the hang of things steadily as you use the software 🙂

Let's tackle the lines where two walls connect. That happens somewhat commonly when curved walls contact each other. Since neither Join Geometry nor Wall Joins worked, I'm thinking like the other people said, using the Linework tool will be your best bet. This is on the Modify tab of the ribbon at the top of the screen, as shown here:

The tool designated by the red arrow and circle is LineworkThe tool designated by the red arrow and circle is Linework

In the drop-down menu which appears after you activate the tool, select <Invisible Lines>, then click the lines where the curved walls connect. They may still partially show in the 3D view; sometimes by scrolling in and out, you will see that the lines are not truly visible (they will likely disappear when you zoom in far enough), but the "dashed" look is just part of the software--the lines will not print when changed to Invisible Lines.

As for where the Floors contact each other, use the Join Geometry tool. This should make the lines vanish. If they don't, something is keeping the lines from vanishing which we could figure out if you post the .rvt file.

You're awesome! Your meticulousness means a lot to me.  How can I share the file? I think that's the easiest.

I'm happy to help 😊 When you reply to a message, scroll down a ways and you will see a way to attach files. It looks like this:

There it is. Please notice that I did join the walls following your instructions but I still see a black line. Also, notice these two similar walls. One shows the black line (with the dashed solution which I don't like) and the other one doesn't.

Some of these intersections are going to need to be finessed.  For example, the walls at this intersection can be Joined by Disallowing Automatic Join, overlapping them (precisely) and using the Join Geometry tool.

Thank you this helps a little. Now, how exactly do I overlap the two walls like you did? Also how to do access "Plan View"? The following picture is from "Level 1" Lastly, do you know why I have such a huge black lines there around my walls?  (Separate question: do you know where I can download free Revit model of house shells like these so I can learn from others?) I know this is a lot of tough questions so thanks in advance!

Why can't you just turn off the display of the faces of objects?

I only want to see a smooth texture, without all this dirt
