How to Convert IFC Stairs to Revit Stairs: Need Help with Safety Railings

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a solution to a problem we've encountered while working with an IFC model in Revit. We've been given an IFC model and need to apply safety and health measures, including collective protections, auxiliary means, etc. However, when trying to place a safety railing on a staircase from the model, Revit does not recognize it as a native staircase but rather as an IFC staircase.

This prevents us from using Revit's standard functionality to place railings on the staircase. We've tried several options, but none have worked so far. Has anyone faced this problem before and could suggest a solution? Is there a way to convert or import the IFC staircase as a native Revit staircase so that we can correctly apply the safety railings?

I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Create a simplified Stair Type and use that as a Reference to place Railing. Then hide "Reference" Stairs in Views just like you would hide Reference Planes.   No?

Thanks for the suggestion. I understand the idea of creating a reference ladder and hiding it in the views, but I have some concerns about introducing unnecessary elements into the BIM model, as this could affect the accuracy and efficiency of the model.

I feel it is critical to maintain the integrity of the model and avoid temporary elements that may cause confusion in the future. That is why I had ruled out that option and was looking into the possibility of converting the IFC ladder to a native Revit element.
