How to change transparency of a filled region

Hi all,

In Revit are you able to edit the transparency of a filled region similar to AutoCAD?

In AutoCAD you can set the transparency from 0-100 but in Revit i can only see two options of either 'Opaque' or 'Transparent' under the edit type feature.

Surely there's a way to edit the transparency of a filled region in Revit?

Many thanks

Create a filter to filter for detail items. Add it to the view template. In the filter you will be able to set the transparency of the filled region by percentage.

Hi there.

I'm currently working within REVIT 2019 and I'm having an issue with Fill Region.  In previous versions, I would be able to turn the Fill pattern to be opaque or transparent.  I see that Autodesk has changed this in 2019 and it seems that the only way to make it transparent again is through filters or in Override Graphics in view.  However, by doing so, that changed the colour of the fill region I'm applying.  Is there another way for me to maintain the colour and the transparency? Or did I miss a setting somewhere?

Now you have Masking checkbox to control background transparent/opaque options i think.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, there is the masking option, but it doesn't turn transparent for modeled item.  It only allow transparency for detail items and links only.  The fill region I'm applying is to denote a typical mat reinforcement and there is a concrete beam below that floor.  The dash line doesn't show through the fill region as previous versions does.

May be you can switch to wireframe first (so you can select) and use Show Hidden Lines command

What do you mean by "Show Hidden Lines" command?  The Fill Region doesn't go behind the model item.

If you're using earlier version of revit. There is an other easy way to change transparency of filled region.

--> Right click on filled region

-->Override graphics in view >>> by element

--> Surface Trancparency

Use slider... Thats all.

Yes. That is the case in earlier versions of REVIT, but in 2019, it will not go transparent unless you override it by instance or via a filter. By doing so, if you have a specific colour you are trying to go with that fix the office standard, you will have have a hard time controlling that.

Maybe the question was not asked correctly. While this technically answers the question, I believe there is more to it. I don't know the answer but this needs to be controlled in the type properties, so it doesn't need to be addressed in every view!

Tried doing it, it was impossible. When I went to filter there was no option to add filled region. Maybe a bit more detailed tutorial might help. Thanks.

Add Detail Items to your filters.

I am also having issues with this as I cannot find it in filters in Revit 2021. Rather than overriding each filled region and remembering the exact percentage, it would be great to make a filled region by default xxx opaque no matter the view template. The issue is obviously that you have to add this on each single view template.

(Offtopic) As we are talking about filled regions it would be great if the whole process of it is reworked as I find it the least successful part of Revit. 1. There should be be a setting to automatically change all the lines for all selected filled region all at once (rather than going into it) and 2. There must become a smarter way of selecting regions and lines to make sure it is perfectly enclosed. The amount of hours I have spent trying to find some overlapping line or this tiny gap of 0.1 mm that somehow was not spotted in the "show" part.

I can't find filled region under detail items either.
I've got a filled region in a Tag family I would like to make 50% transparent

Filled Regions are Detail Items.  Select the filled regions n view, enter 50 in Comments, then create a Filter for Detail Items, use the rule Comments = 50, add the filter to view and override it to 50% transparency.

you can also simply right click on the filled region and "override graphics in view" -> by element, then change the transparency there

I'm using Revit 2022, this worked!  I didn't want to affect the transparency of all filled regions just on an object by object basis.  Thanks.
