How do I make created parameters appear on the properties palette

I want to put multiple graphic scale options on the title block and have them show up on the properties palette. How do I do that. My current title block has a couple on there, how do I add more?

Open the family.

Make a copy of one of the existing ones.

Rename and adjust appropriately.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Accepted solution
  • Draw or place pre-made families in your title block family
  • select the elements
  • in the properties window > Graphics category > Visibility pick the small button on the Right hand side of the visibility line.
  • select new Parameter (bottom Left)
    • give it a name and grouping
    • select whether you want it to be Type or Instance (in this cast you will probably want instance)
  • select OK
  • select the new parameter and select OK
  • Repeat for each grouping of element you want to control

when you load the title block into your project you will have the check boxes to them them on/off.

Great! Thanks. On this same topic, I created a yes/no parameter. You must access the Edit Type button to turn it on and off each time. Is there a way to make it appear outside, on the Properties windows instead for quicker access?

Thanks

@joseleyva5M894

Make the parameter instance-based, rather than type-based.

Will this work for tags, i.e. if we have linework in a tag will the visibility work?
it comes up in the type properties.. but cant get it to go to the properties window..

Also will not show up at all as an instance, not even in type prop window.. this one is "type"
any help appreciated

I'm finding myself in a similar situation but restricted to keeping the constraint parameter a Type Parameter. Is there anyway to have this show up in the Properties window? My detailers highly prefer to have it all in the Properties window.

Add a report (read only) instanse parameter, and let it equals to the type parameter.

content in the properties window are Instance parameters. If you want the parameter to be adjusted separately for every instance placed in the model. When you change a parameter to an instance, it is no longer controlled by the Family Type option. You can change the parameter from "Type" to an "Instance" parameter.

  • edit the family
  • open the Family Types option in the Create ribbon, Properties panel
  • select that parameter and pick Edit Parameter from the bottom left corner
    • looks like a pencil
  • change it from Type to Instance
    • if the parameter is greyed out and says "Built-In parameter" at the top, that is a hard-coded parameter and it can not be changed.
