How do I filter everything from a cateogory except a few families in views?

I'm trying to do what I thought was a very straightforward thing but revit's unintuitiveness never fails. I'm trying to turn off all furniture in a few views but keep 2 families which are fixed furniture. I have tried creating a ruled based furniture filter with filtering by type mark does not equal or equal the families' type mark. Neither worked and I tried turning on and off the furniture category too. What am I supposed to do to make this work? Thanks.

Add " Fixed" to the Comments field of the ones you want to keep. Create a Filter applicable to the categories, rule = Comments Not Equal "Fixed", add it to the view. Uncheck the Filter's box and they will disappear except for the fixed furniture.

Worth to note that I use the Comments field to create the Filter is just an example.  You can always create a Yes/No parameter for the categories and you just need to check a box instead of typing.  In our projects, we have various boxes to control the visibility of elements for different purposes.
