How do I assign more memory to Revit?

When I display Task Manager's Performance Monitor, I see that Revit maxes out at 25% of available memory (yes, that's a flat line at 25%). What settings in Windows and/or Revit will allow Revit to use more and go faster?

Actually, it's Revit LT 2015 and 2016 (depending on the architect) 64-bit.

I'm having a similar problem in my office - we have machines with 32G RAM but revit only ever uses 15Gb (flat lining) .. is there a way to increase how much revit uses of physical RAM? The link you provided only really discusses virtual memory, which I think would be plan B if you had no available extra RAM .. we would just like to increase the physical RAM allowance that revit uses to maybe 75% (25Gb ish).

Any help would be greatly apprecaited 🙂

I use Revit 2019 and I have 16 GB ram and it uses just 2 GB of that .... 😞

Somehow, I've missed the responses since I posted this until todays' response by s.axx.

On the advice of my IT guru, I have increased the Windows swap file (virtual memory) on my C drive to 18,432. The C drive is an SSD. It runs much better than before. No change to the initial issue, but it's fine for now.

A comment on the forum itself. Unlike revitforum.org and others, I can't see the other posts while I write this. Apologies to s.axx if I've misspelt your nickname.

The amount of memory available to to Revit is managed by the operating system (Windows). Revit will take advantage of as much memory as it is given. There is no limit set in Revit - I have heard of some monster Revit projects using up to 128GB. 

If you do elect to set to manage Virtual Memory settings manually, please set based on Microsoft recommendations found here:

The short summary: set it to 1X-3X the amount of RAM available.

@Anonymous , if your office is running Windows 10, based on a quick google search, it appears in some cases the Windows Virtual Memory management prevents use of the full RAM. The suggested solution is to uncheck the "Automatically manage paging files for all drives" checkbox & reboot.

@Anonymous , there are only two reasons I can think of that Revit would be limited to 2GB: the VM setting mentioned above or if you are running a 32-bit version of Revit. The last Revit version to ship with 32-bit was 2014. We no longer support 32-bit due to the limits to RAM availability.
