I can cut vertical sections on an elevation all day long.  But can't seem to sort out how to put a horizontal section cut tag on an elevation.  Revit version 2018

Horizontal section equals callout in the plan. You can put a horizontal section in a vertical view. go to any plan and create a callout. change View range as needed.

Or do you want section mark to appear horizontal while section itself is vertical?

While using the Section view, change the ‘Section’ to ‘Detail’ (in the Properties palate).  You will then be able to cut a horizontal section.

I guess I am stuck in old fashioned drafting conventions.  The callout technically would be an enlarged elevation view if placed on an elevation.

I am trying to cut a section through a vertical reveal on a wall elevation.  According to my firm's drafting conventions this would be a section cut mark, placed horizontally on the elevation.  I am not so concerned about the actual view created, as I can just draw the reveal in detail lines.  I just am having a hard time wrapping my around the impossibility of placing a horizontal section cut mark.  There has to be a way.  Doesn't there.

I don't see where I can change the Section to Detail View. My properties panel is blank when I start a section cut ??

Late to the party but perhaps this will be useful to someone at some point - You can draw a section vertically and then use the Align (AL) tool to force it horizontal by aligning it to any horizontal line in the view (just draw a Detail Line if needed and then delete it)

Draw a vertical section approximately where you want the horizontal section cut; then rotate the vertical section annotation 90 degrees.  It will now be a horizontal section looking up or down.
