Horizontal Cut in Mansard Roof for Window

Hi All,

Is there a way to create a horizontal opening in a roof as you can with a wall in Revit? I have a Mansard roof and my windows won't automatically cut the roof; therefore, I need to do this manually but cannot figure out how:

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thank you in advance.

You can use the Dormer tool.or use an in place void.

You need a wall to host the Window -- both in Revit and in the Field.  There is no getting around that.

Problem is my 'Wall' is at 80 degrees. This means I have to draw it as a roof in Revit.

I'd have to see the RVT, but why not edit your roof sketch to "frame" the opening?

Regarding the Window: you need a type that will host to a sloped surface. Check out the OOTB Skylights.

Thanks. I resorted to Skylights and Dormers. 'In place' voids stopped the walls from attaching to the roof and caused numerous errors.

That's what I get for using a family for the window surrounds and not walls/roofs!

I would still of liked the option for plumb windows without dormers though.

Because that would create a vertical opening not horizontal. All opening options for roofs are either vertical or aligned with the face, there is no option for a vertical opening in roofs like there is for walls.

You can do "Plumb" (e.g. Vertical) Windows even if the Host is sloped. The easiest way to do this, would be to just create a "regular"wall to host the Window that is close to the same size as the Window's opening cut, and then build your "sloped" wall around that wall.  Pretty much exactly how it will be framed in the field.

Not true. The Vertical and By Face Opening tools cut opening in Roofs.   Behaves exactly like the Wall Opening for Walls.

Just wondering if I misread your post and this is what you were talking about...
