Help with Join command

I have a beam that extends beyond the exterior wall.  I have tried umpteen million times to join the geometry, but I can't get it to attach to the wall.  Any know how I can make this work?

The end goal is to show the line where the planes intersect, similar to the fascia running into the roof...

Join Geometry makes the lines disappear.

Unjoin Geometry should let the lines remain.

Put an unattached Void around your geometry and check "Cuts with Void when Loaded" in the Family, and use the Cut Tool in the Project.

Switch Join Order.

Edit the family and make the beam geometry visible to all detail levels.  then you can join it with the wall.

Sometimes the learning curve in Revit is smooth, with wonderful views.  Other times you're pulling G's just to stay above the impact zone.

Truth.  I have no formal training on Revit.  I've used it for, maybe, one month.  It's learning under fire for me here.  It has definitely pushed me to my limits...
