Help! I Can't Cut Curtain Panel with Generic Model Solid

I cannot figure this out.

I inherited a model from another firm to work on this project. They have a KIP wall system set up where the wall is made up of curtain wall panels. They have another family that is cutting openings into the curtain wall panel wall to create openings. It seems to be working fine. BUT, I cannot replicate the process to cut new openings!! If I copy and paste their cutting family it will not cut. I can edit dimensions of existing cuts but not create new ones that will cut. I have tried every combination of Cut-Geometry I can fathom.  I have been able to recreate cutting simple solid glass curtain panels, but cannot cut the KIP wall.

I am uploading a pared down model. You can see the pink cutting family working, and then to the right the one I pasted over that will not cut the curtain panels.

I can cut new openings with that family. Did you select the PANEL to cut?

Am I doing things out of order?

  1. Component- Model-in-place, Mass
  2. Model a cube and make it go through the curtain wall panel
  3. finish Mass check mark
  4. Go to Modify - Cut Geometry
  5. Select the mass first, then the curtain panel
  6. <error>>>>>> 😑

Since you got that to work.. I'm curious if you could get it to work with the pink cube to the right..?

This model has these pink cubes cutting all over the place working, and I can't get them to work by creating/copying a new one.

Are you using the TAB key to cycle to the PANEL to cut? You need to do this for EACH Panel you want the Mass to Cut.  Get it?

I can cut panels with both your pink family as well as an In-Place Mass.  See screenshot above.

I've definitely been tabbing to select the panel and still get that error. I've tried the greater curtain wall and the panels individually. I've tried every combination I can think of for hours. I can get it to work if I make a simple glass curtain wall but then it won't work when I try the SIP panels. So strange, it seems like a glitch. I was hoping someone would tell me that I'm forgetting a check box or there was a different command. It just isn't working for me as described.

How can it be a "glitch" if I can do it all day long and twice on Sundays?

I think it's a loose nut behind the keyboard.  😉

Okay, I got your PM.  Maybe you do have a "glitch".  I can see clearly in the included screenshot that a CW Panel is selected.  Only way to do that is by TAB-Selecting. So, I'm stumped as to why Cut Geometry isn't working for you like it works for me.

You say you just downloaded and started using 2024. Have you installed Updates? Have you tried reinstalling?
