Helix Staircase

Hi,

I trying to make a steel helix staircase with a laser cut pattern on the phase of the stringers. I tried making a modified family profile for the striger but I can't figure out how to draw it with the pattern.

Thanks

a stringer in a revit stair is a profile that is swept along the curved path of the stair.  I tried making a custom baluster with an object that might cut/join the geometry but it didn't work.

I will research this and get back to you.

it could be a way if you use a material with cutouts. These will be shown in Realistic and RayTrace Visual Styles and also in Render ( computer Render , not in Render in cloud because cutouts it is a procedural map)

For this , select the Suppports - Stringer > Properties > Edit Type > Type Properties > Materials and Finishes > Material - chose a metal material and make a copy of it so to create a new material . From Appearance , use Cutouts . You an create ( preferable in Photoshop) your own black and white pattern (white is opaque and black transparent)

Anyway this effect an be obtained much better in 3ds MAX , where the mapping of the texture is more developed.....

Great! Thats going to be very useful. But Im not sure if it works for the type of pattern I and trying to do on the stringer. Its a little complicated and its  specificly for the stringer.

Thanks for the help!
