Generic Model hatch not showing in plan view, but does in section

I'm having trouble getting the material cut pattern showing correctly with a number of families I created. They seem to show in section, but not in plan view.

I haven't tested very carefully with the rfa file to get fully understand of it. I did one thing to test, which I found if I unjoined the geometries in the rfa, they would show the proper hatch in plan view. I will take some other time to test it and get the reason.

I tried unjoining them as well, then rejoining the individual model elements, then loaded the family back into a test project and the hatch showed up correctly in plan view. From there I started repainting surfaces again and found that once you reach a certain number of painted surfaces, the bulk of the model element takes on the material and hatch of the painted material. This is puzzling, as I have a number of other families that I have painted surfaces to and they behave as would be expected.

The problem lies in the painted surfaces within the generic model family, by the looks of it. My workaround was to make all three of the used materials within the family the same cut hatch pattern.

I can see the hatch in plan view after adding the hatch in Surface Pattern at material browser. Currently you add only at Cut Pattern. forum archi revit.JPG

I noted that as well.

I did some experimenting and you can paint a number of the joined surfaces without affecting the 150mm precast cut pattern. It seems arbitrary when this occurs, however. The mass then takes on the cut pattern of the material that has been painted.
