From Revit to the Oculus Rift with the Universal Design Viewer by Machine Elf!

Hello,

Last April we introduced ourselves to the community with our upcoming product, the Integrated Design Viewer. Since then we have been hard at work creating this product and building it up to the level it needs to be.

While we are not ready yet with the Integrated Design Viewer we would like to introduce the Universal File Viewer, a one click drag and drop solution for opening a wide range of 3D/BIM files straight into the Oculus Rift (or on screen). These file types include:

  • AutoDESK Filmbox and Revit via Export (.FBX)
  • Tremble SketchUp via Collada Importing (.DAE)
  • AutoDESK AutoCAD (.DXF)
  • 3DS Max (.3DS)
  • Blender (.Blend)
  • Wavefront Object (.OBJ)
  • Industry Foundation Classes (.IFC)
  • Stanford Polygon Library (.PLY)

For only $20 explore your designs and 3D files with full physics on head mounted displays like the Oculus Rift or on screen for standard navigation.

So purchase the Universal File Viewer today! For more information, click here.

Thank you for your support for our first set of products; we look forward to you trying the application out and for your support!

Are there any plan or possibility that Gear VR would be supported in future? Are there enough processing power to support perhaps abbreviated and edited models specifically for viewing purposes?

Hello,

We have GearVR planned for the near future (1-3) months with the same level of support of different model types as the Universal File Viewer currently has for desktops.

Thank you for the inquiry! We look forward to additional questions and feedback.

Great! I'll definitely look foward to it. Also, are there any youtube tutorial that show how your software work and how well it translate the model over to Oculus? And is this a one way translation or does your software actually open the revit file itself and leave it editable? Also, how are texture handled? do they carry intact into oculus?

Has anyone tried this with the Rift?

Hi,

for the same purpose of walking through your project with Revit and Oculus Rift you could also use Enscape.

You can see how it works here.

Enscape only works as a plugin for Revit but executables can be created easily. You can download the software here: www.enscape3d.com.
