From Point Clouds to Revit

Hi,

I am a Surveying and Geomatics engineering final year student. I am working on my end of studies project about creating an as built BIM from point clouds data.

My question is how to process that? does anyone of you have a webinar or a video that illustrates an example of modelling a building (indoor scenes included)  ?

Regards,

Manal

Most as-builts that utilize point scan clouds are already modeled; the scan is to verify construction variances.  So a BIM would have been created to get the permits and construciton documents, then a scan would be overlaid to confirm the final results and make adjustments for construction changes.

Scan Cloud registration software (Recap & Cyclone) can generate planes/surfaces and basic shapes from the scan cloud to allow modeling from the point cloud, but this generally results in a very large file size and is often not very accurate (the walls will not be plumb, for example).  This works fine for simulations and gaming, though.

Good luck!

The building I am working on is a historical building that requires refurbishment So there is no BIM model already done. As for softwares, I am intending to work with Edgewise and Pointsense Plugins in Revit. They are pretty strong tools at extracting objects and surfaces.
