Fix Bug - Family Geometry broken when rotated

When rotating family geometry, it often breaks the whole assembly. There's no apparent logical reason for this, it just makes it really hard to fix broken or develop new families. Please fix this issue. Rotating things should not break them, especially when using the "disjoin" button.

I can say with certainty that Autodesk has broken many families in America. Let's stop the social damage.

indeed it does. sorry. All's I can say, is that it needs constraints to hold it together in the Revit world, just like it will need screws or welds to hold it together in the real world.

I'm going to need some Revit duct tape 😛

Thans for joining me on this wold ride. I've posted a technical ticket and hope to report this as an official bug, or recieve a proper logical explanation.

Yes I got the same result for that particular angle.  It seems like the start/end of the extrusions are reversed.  Revit does not like rotation angles of 90, 180, -90.  If you work with rotation parameter you will notice these angles are recipe to break things.

With that said, I wouldn't waste energy trying to hit that road.  Walk around it.  Using other means of constraints to make it work.  In the screencast I add a reference plane to host these extrusion and everything remains intact when I rotate the reference plane.  At any given angles.

Reference planes are the backbone of Revit.  Use them.

It still amazes me that instead of asking a question about why something doesn't work as expected, people jump right to it being a bug.

Good luck finding out why.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
