Fire Separation Lines

Hey all

Just reaching out to find out what process people are using to show fire separation on walls in floor plans? I have come across a few ideas but nothing that gives me the overall desired result.

Options include:

• Basic line type with different patterns to represent different ratings - these can look different when different scales are applied
• Same as above with different color lines - does not work for B&W prints
• Applying override to walls and use filters to show patterns, etc. - again the scale & print color effects this

Thoughts & recommendations welcome.

Yes, I thought of that but you would have to tag each wall in each direction.

I was surprised that there aren't more responses to this. Coming from the MEP side, I was able to find lots of solutions with a quick search.

lots of solutions?  The question was how to show fire separation on walls in floor plans.  The OP mentioned Line Weight, Line Pattern, Fill Pattern. I mentioned Tags, Symbols.  What more is there?

Just answering the question and pointing out that the question has been asked many times throughout the years and many answers marked as "solutions".

Thank you. Yes I seen that thread before and they are good options, but maybe I was looking for something more smart, which I know is asking for much. I looked at dynamo before by inserting a line type at the base of each wall that has a certain value assigned to a Fire Rating parameter, but then this would also have to be placed on a section view which I could not work out.

The filter and VT combination IMO is the best as it would move with a wall should one change, but we don't print in color.

The Detail Item option in that thread you linked is what I will look at developing for our own standards. It would streamline things. If the scale changes and the symbols get further away from each other, there is the option of changing these as an instance parameter. useful for small length walls.

Would you consider identifying the fire compartment of the rooms?

If you used a Colour Fill (Perhaps a pattern rather than colour) identifying the Fire Rating of a Room, this would clearly identify the direction of the fire Rating and wall orientation
