File with topography keeps crashing in revit 2020

Hello,

I have imported a CAD file with heavy topography into Revit. I am trying to lay roads on it using various tools - Site engineer,  dynamo, etc, however, as soon as i pick the toposurface revit either stops responding after loading half way through or completely crashes or takes at least 6 hours to process through one command.  I am unable to figure out what the reason could be. I have been redrafting the same thing over and over again for the past 1 week. I was using Revit 2020.2 and I have now started working on Revit 2019 to see if that helps. 2019 is way better however the issue still persists. Please help me out. How can I resolve it? To help better understand where the issue is coming from:

1. Can you try to simplify the Toposurface?
2. Are you on a laptop or desktop?
3. What are your system specs?
4. The CAD file was loaded into the project with the import or link button?
5. If possible can you provide message your model to me for us to test?

Thanks a lot for your reply. I am using Revit 2019 on a Hp Pavilion Laptop connected to monitors. The laptop model being -  HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs3xxx, i7 processor, 16GB Ram + 256GB SSD with NVIDIA graphics card GeForce MX250. I have previously worked on virtual desktop called PaperSpace and used Revit 2020.2; which was much difficult to work on due to constant crashing of Revit.

1. I tried to simplify the Toposurface but the command did not go through either. I used 3" accuracy.

2. I have imported the Cad file.

3. The file is 78.9 Mb and its not letting me attach it. Is there any other way to share the file ?

Please let me know if there is any other info that you want from me.

You started off by saying that you "imported a CAD file with heavy topography into Revit".  You didn't specifically say so, but I'm assuming it was a DWG and that you created a Revit Toposurface from the Imported Instance.  Is this correct?  Did you check only the relevant DWG Layers when you were prompted by the "Add Points From Selected Layers" dialog?

clean as much as possible your autocad file, purge, audit and overkill, delete those objects that you don't need and it could there are 3d objects, if you don't then just flatten it and see if helps. thanks

Thanks for your reply. Yes. I exactly did that.  I created a Revit Toposurface from the Imported Instance. And yes, I selected only the relevant dwg layers. Yet, none of the commands go through and the file keeps crashing.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Yes, I did freeze all the unwanted layers and just activated 3 layers and imported the file. Yet it doesn't help.
