File Size _ What causes a file to increase it's size

I've created Revit Project Files with the Architectural Template: LT_USI_Default File,

which is approximately 3,120 KB's.

When I Transfer Project Standards and bring in selected types and things like our company title sheets ,

the file jumps up to 412,668 KB's in size.

What would cause a file to increase it's size so large ?.....and  What can I do to decrease the file size ??

Project file size is an accumulation of all the things. things that might impact the size

-Quantity of families

-Many highly detailed families (large sized families).

-Import of foreign file formats (e.g autocad dwg's).

-Import of large images (e.g logo's)

-No consistency between families causing build up of materials, line styles etc.

Especially if you done a lot of work in your families/projects it can help to do a "Save As" and select "Compact File" under the options.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Embedded DWG's will add quite a bit of weight too...

So if you have DWG details in drafting views that will cause a huge increase.
