'File not saved' when trying to save new and existing Revit files

I am currently in the middle of a university project on Revit 2020, but when I tried to save the file it came up with the 'file not saved' dialog box. When I looked up some of the solutions, most of them said that I probably had to close the program in order to fix it. However, my project hasn't been saved for a couple of weeks, so if I do this, a lot of my work will be lost.

Is there anyway I can fix the problem without having to close the program?

Also, I am using Windows via Boot Camp on a 2017 iMac

Are you in the middle of another command, maybe in another open file or session? Is Windows in the middle of one?  Check Task Manager.

Task Manager said the only two active programs were Microsoft Edge and Revit. However, it does say in the bottom right corner that there is an update for the operating system that I can set a time for.

Wow, a couple of weeks without saving.

Is it a trial version? those can't save or Export beyond the 30 day limit.

or is it a Educational Version, are you still logged in with a AutoDesk account in Revit (see Upper right corner).

- Is it a Workshared Revit Project file?

- Enough space to save the file?

It is the Educational version that is free for university students. I am still logged in, and it is not a workshared file. It is saved locally to my C: drive. It says I still have 40GB of memory left on that.

I know, I must have turned the autosave off by accident..

Check under "About Autodesk Revit 2020" on Info Center at top right of screen.

No, only the 2D wheel. It does say in the Autodesk app that there is a Revit update available, however.

Info Center. Very top right.  Next to where you sign-in, press the down arrow next to the Question Mark.

I have checked everything in that area. No mention of Viewer Mode.

If it starts ticking loudly after you press on it, don't make any sudden movements. Stand up and step away from the computer very, very slowly.

Ha ha. Forgive my ignorance, I'm very much a beginner with this software. I have read through that guide you posted earlier, and in order to update the software, it means restarting my computer. However, if I do this, I will lose my work. Any suggestions?

Bummer. Sorry.

At least you learned a valuable lesson.  Save often.  You might want to set up Save Reminders under Options.
