Feet and fractional inches dimension display from ' " to ft in

I am working on a project where the unit format is in feet and fractional inches. It was requested that the feet/inch tick marks be replaced with abbreviations. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? 

4' 0" would become 4 ft 

or

4' 2" would become 4 ft 2 in

The format for "feet and fractional inches" does not give you the option to change the unit symbol. I am looking to change the unit symbol from ' " to ft in.

if you want use "ft" & "in" you have to use Decimal Feet or Decimal Inches. those are the only Imperial options that allow you to change the unit symbol.
