Family types

Hello,

I am trying to create a family of a shower tray which will allow me to alter the dimensions and have everything move along accordingly for the ride. The issue i m having is that I have some supports underneath the shower tray that I would like to remain evenly spaced and only be added when there is enough room for a new row. however the way it is now is that it is just squashing the supports together. Can anyone please help me with this? I will include the revit family file and screenshots of what is happening.

It seems as though the family is inserting teh same number of supports, irrespective of the width of the shower.

Take this

And make a family out of it (generic model should be good enough)

Nest this into the tray family as a parametric array. Control the number of instances with the formula Width/desired spacing

Hello rsahayUZMK9,

Can you please explain to me how to do this? I am a bit of a Revit noob especially when it comes to Families. I have made a family of the spacers, but am unsure what you mean by nesting it as a parametric array and controlling the number of instances with a formula.... I want to space them 200mm apart from each other. So as the shower tray increases in length more and more spacer will be added at 200mm intervals.

Can you walk me through this?

Before get into model those using parametric arrays, may I understand what they are?  Do they need to be actual model elements of a certain size or can they be a hatch pattern indicating a material?

Have you even opened the family that was sent to you?

That should be explanatory.

1) CTRL-C to copy the supports

2) Start a new Generic Model Family, and CTRL-V. Position it centered to the intersection of the reference planes

3) Save and name

4) Click on Load Family. Select the shower tray family.

5) In the project browser of the Shower Tray family, expand the plus sign next to Families. Under Generic Models you should see the supports family

6) Place the supports family in the correct location

7) With the supports family selected, click on Array

8) Click from the mid point of the supports family, then click 200 mm away. You will see a 2 appear above the two resulting instances. Exit the command

9) Click on the 2, and then on Label. You will be prompted to create a new parameter. Call the new parameter Array Number

10) Click on Family Types. You will see the Array Number parameter. Enter the formula to correctly calculate the number of instances - Shower Width (or whatever the width parameter is called - you need to type it in exactly)/200

They are part of the physical shower tray. They are foam supports fixed to the underside of the tray to provide a solid base so the shower tray does not bow misshaping the floor. I guess they could be either model elements or a hatch pattern but I need to be able to see them in section.
