Family frame creation - paramatic structural beam + column

Hi 

I am having issues with a paramatic frame that I am making a family of. I want it to be adjustable in height, width and length. It mostly works however when I change from different types that I have set (i.e. different dimensions) it doesnt always seem to lock the dimensions and throws the constraint error.

I am not sure if this has to do with the way structural framing members and columns snap ? I might try doing it via a sweep but would prefer to do it this way.

Anyone able to suggest what i am missing? I have it all snapped to reference planes but just doesnt seem to want to stay. I think the error occurs when it goes from pod 5 to pod 4

Are you using Structural Framing and Column families in this family?  That would one explanation.

Are the nested beam, column families shared?  It is more liable if they are NOT structural column / framing families, but generic or line based families then category changed to structural.

i think i might have sorted it - think it was to do with disallowing beam joins at ends and providing more reference planes. now currently looks like this with reference planes each side evenly spaced

was previously like this which i think was the wrong way to do it

Why are you using Structural Framing Families in this Family? Serious as a heart attack question.  

Have you considered building this "Family" as an RVT that can be Loaded As Group into other RVTs?

mainly just due to it being a structural frame. yes have considered it although there is 40 or so to make and can all be inserted as families rather than models into a central model

Well, I'd be happy to proffer advice if I understood what the deliverable was. That's precisely why I asked you why you are using Structural Framing and Column Families.

Gotcha - still having the issues unfortunately with the families breaking unfortunately.

I have put them all into 1 family with multiple types that have varying dimensions. 

Wondering if it would be easier to just create a separate family for each type that way there is no issues in changing between types. my errors are coming from changing between types - might be the solution.

Unfortunately, I don't "Gotcha" and given the lack of feedback and specifics from you, I don't think anyone here will be able to help you figure out why your Families are "breaking" -- whatever that means in your world. 

Maybe you can answer this question: why not do what @ToanDN suggested?

Sure. When changing between the different family types it will break the constraints I have made (to the references) and break the frame. I have currently got it as a generic model family with structural framing member + structural column inserted. - what would be the new suggestion be for line based ? what family template do i use ?
