Exporting Multiple Design Options as IFC in Revit

Hi everyone,

Has anyone found a solution to export all design options separately as IFC files in Revit? From what I understand, when working in a 3D view and selecting a specific design option, the IFC export only includes the primary option. Is there a way to export each design option individually? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @MooreMU
try  to make the design option active before exporting.

I already attempted that when trying to export IFC, but it only exports the Primary option.

In the visibility graphics dialogue

  • set the view to the design option you wish to export

in the ifc export settings

  • check the box for “export elements visible in view only”

I have different design options for various parts of the building. In the Visibility Graphics dialog, I can select these options easily, but in the workspace, I can only activate one at a time. Even when I select 'Export only visible in view' in the IFC export dialog, I’m unable to export all the design options I chosed in the Visibility Graphics settings.

You don't need to activate a design option to export, it is only for editing.  Create a 3d view for each scenario you want to export, set the IFC export options > advanced > Use active view when creating geometry, then export to IFC.  Repeat for other scenarios.

The design options are correctly configured in Visual Graphics, and the selected design option is active in the Visibility/Graphics dialog.

I also attempted toggling the workset between active and inactive.

The "Export Only Visible in View" option is enabled, and the Phase Mapping in the IFC export settings is correctly set.

After multiple tests, I noticed that when design options are set to Automatic in Visual Graphics, the IFC export includes the Primary Design Option. However, when selecting a non-primary design option in visual grafic, none of the design options are included in the IFC outcome .

Additionally, I checked and toggled the boxes at the bottom of the screen and no desired result.

You right , That can't be Exported.
I never needed that so I never tried.
