export from BIM 360 to IFC or FBX

Hello,

I've got a Revit file (*.rvt). My aim is to export the model to a data format that I can work with in other software. So far, IFC and FBX have been identified as useful formats in that respect. But I am unable to open the model in Revit LT 2018: "The model xxxx.rvt is missing many elements, and it cannot be opened." However, I can open the model in the A360 family of products (A360 viewer, BIM 360 Team, Collaboration for Revit), of which I am trying out trail versions (apparently a different data reading engine is used). But my problem with those products is that I can not seem to export the model in other formats than the original Revit format. Is it somehow possible to export a Revit model to IFC or FBX format in BIM 360 Team, or similar product?

Regards,

Frans

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for the post.

So if I understand correctly, the (xxxx).rvt file is not opening correctly in Revit LT?

About what Revit version are we talking?

There has been an issue in Revit 2017, without the latest service packs, the .rvt file won't be optimally opened in Revit LT. But when you got the latest service packages this shouldn't be an issue. See this link for a similar post about this issue.

Some more information about the interaction between Revit and Revit LT please see this link.

But to answer your main question, you can't export IFC out of A360, BIM360 team, glue, field, docs, plan or any of these cloud platforms. There are ways with additional platforms to export IFC with a cloud environment. But if you want to make an IFC, why not do this directly out of Revit?

Hi Frans,

Thank you for taking your time to post this on the forum,

You are experiencing a corruption issue with your file and I would need to have a look at it to restore it.

Normally you can avoid the files getting tot his stage by scheduling in Audits in your weekly planning.

Reality is that a lot of users avoid Audits as it prolongs the opening process, but it's important to run them as they clear a lot of data issues.

If you are able to share the file let me know, you can send me a download link in a direct message.

Hello Josha,

Thank you for explaining. The Revit version I tried to open the file with is Revit LT 2018.

It is good to know that the Autodesk cloud platforms do not support IFC export. I guess I will have to try to obtain a better (audited) version of the revit file, so that it can be opened in Revit LT.

Regards,

Frans

Hello Jacob,

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction for solving the problem of reading the file in Revit LT.

I received the file from another party and I am not at liberty to share it, but I will contact the source and ask if they can run an Audit. Hopefully that will solve the data problem.

Regards,

Frans
