Can't open Revit 2017 file in Revit LT 2017

Hi All, We need some help. When trying to open a Revit 2017 file in Revit LT 2017 we get this message: "Project Cannot be opened in Revit LT because it was last saved in a version of Revit prior to 8.1" and the file doesn't open.... I used to have Revit 2016 and Revit LT 2016 before and never had issues with interoperability, any idea of why it may be happening? Appreciate your help, Cecilia.

Hi ToanDN, sorry for taking so long..I was in sick leave.. this is the Revit 2017 file which I did in my home computer which is a Windows Ultimate 10. Then I tried to open this file at work using Revit LT 2017 but I couldn't. I get the message:"Project Cannot be opened in Revit LT because it was last saved in a version of Revit prior to 8.1"

The computer at work is also Windows 10 but pro.

The file is fine.  You just need to update LT to the latest SP.

Hi @Anonymous

  • The error message for files created by a later version format is not related to this error code ("file cannot be opened in Revit LT because it was last saved in a version of Revit prior to 8.1.")...This error code appears to be a Revit LT issue. It happens to appear when one tries to open (on LT) an older file format created by a full Revit version.
  • Programming functionality has changed with 8.X  LT just could not read the code from 8.1 and prior because few elements of core program was reorganized.

SOLUTION:

You can always download a demo of the full version, and update the files, so it can be read in the current version of Revit LT.Use the demo to convert the old files / save on the trial version then reopen with Revit LT. Try and let me know if this works.

Your file works fine for now. Update the service packs - link HERE

Did you totally miss the part that the OP says they have 2017 for both versions of Revit?  It's a update/service pack issue.  The solution is to make sure both versions have the same service packs installed.
