Explode PDF in Revit

Good afternoon Revit users,

I had a client as a question which I don't do and can't find a straight answer to, but can you explode a PDF in Revit. I usually just trace the pdf in 2022 or convert to a jpeg and trace in Revit to get my model.

I know you can bring in PDF in AutoCAD and you can see all the layers, etc and turn them off.

But can you bring the PDF into Revit in 2022 and explode it.  I haven't find a way or an answers on any other forums, not Autodesk.

Thanks for any assistance.

Brian

I'm not aware of an option to explode it. but the type of PDF makes a difference (a raster, like a scan from papercopy), or a vector type (like a PDF one created from Revit or other document with a PDF printer). If it is a raster-type, it likely is impossible. If it is vector type PDF, it could be possible in principal, but that doesn't mean Revit has the feature.

You can tell if a PDF is a vector type if you can snap to lines in the PDF.

If it indeed doesn't work at all as I suspect, please add it to the Idea Forum as a feature request.

Any idea why would the client want to explode the PDF within Revit? Even if we have explode CAD, it doesn't work as intended within Revit. You only get performance issue and all the junk in CAD added to the Revit file. Imagine if you have that feature inside Revit, it wouldn't do much better than the CAD explode counterpart.

Why don't you bring the PDF in DWG and link the DWG in Revit?  And yes, I know how to 'explode' a PDF and bring all the pieces into Revit, but telling that to you or your client would be similar to giving you guys an instruction how to suicide properly.
