Excavation material with side slopes in topography

Hello,

I have tried taking excavation earth quantity in a topography using that method " making exact same topography, phase changes and creating foundation floor and then getting quantities in Topography schedule". But that is for the Yellow area in a picture attached. What if i have slopes (60 or 45) on sides then how can i calculate these "pink" areas. I tried creating floor there and giving angle but thats not the solution as it has its own alot problems plus i cant create an angle of 60 degrees. I also tried with changing (deleting and adding points in a copied topography) but thats also not a solution for angle.

Any help regarding calculating quantities of pink mentioned areas would be appreciated. or any other method by which i can calculate the total quantity.Excavation.jpg

It shows the procedure that i tried and works good. My Question here for quantities over those angled sloped surfaces.

Try subregion on your Graded Region...

This is very convoluted thing to describe in a post or two.  Depending on your Revit Version, I can share some RVT work product with you that I done for others on this subject -- if you would like to examine them.

Thanks alot. Actually i saw these pictures you posted on someone's post as a solution and i wrote you there but that was an old post. The screencast has nothing with these slopes but the picture you posted is what i want i.e giving required slopes and getting the earthwork quantity. Can you explain a little more please. I have both Revit 2019 and Revit 2020. Once again Thanks for always helping whenever i post a query.

Actually, most of the workflow/methods used in the Screenshot are applicable for what you what to do as well.  It's a multi-faceted, multi-phase workflow.  Anyways, I'll see if I can put together a Screencast for your tomorrow. That'll probably be better for you -- as well as me.  I need the Screencast practice if I want to stay relevant in this You-Tube age.

I mean for normal cut and fill i dont do it much complicated. i just created copy subgraded region of topography and give it the next phase. Then hide existing phase topography and create foundation pad in the copied topography and get the required cut and fill in the topography schedule. Your method is a bit complicated and advanced i think. Yes it will be much better for me too if you make the screencast. Right now i m trying by Dynamo and that can work for deternmining quantities but thats not realistic as i have to convert topography into solid and so on. so i ll be waiting for you. Thanks alot

@barthbradley...what's wrong with using subregion on the graded region? Perhaps this is not as instructive... But I thought it would do, actually not so sure what's convoluted about it...?, although you should know I do appreciate your screencast(s)...

I don’t know what SubRegions is supposed to do – or, Dynamo for that matter. Sounds awfully convoluted to me. I thought the idea was to dig a hole, erect something in it like a foundation wall, and then backfill against it – and, along the way, account for the cut/fill quantities.

it seems a bit complicated as having 4 topographies. Normally it needs topography , its graded copy of it in new phase and foundation pad as what i ve seen.
