Error: "There was a problem sending the command to the program"

When I double click a RVT file, I get an:

Error: "There was a problem sending the command to the program"

It continues to open Revit, but the RVT file does not open. If I double click it again, it will open in the already open Revit window.

If I open Revit first, by clicking the Program shortcut, it opens just fine to the startup screen, then if I double click any Revit project file it will open normally, so there is a workaround for me to open my files, it's just extremely aggravating.

Any fix to this error?

Revit 2016 on Windows 10.

The error message is due to Windows 10 & .NET Framework 4.6. It's not (up till now) communicating properly with many softwares, including Revit. There are no known and/or confirmed fixes for this bug.

You need to continue visit Windows Update and check for new patches/SP/updates to install. You might also want to check for Visual C++ with Microsoft because there are manual patches, but not automatic updates.

What you referred to as a workaround is the right way to do it. Opening files from Windows Explorer is a Windows functionality, which seems to be buggy in Windows 10.

You were right. I re-downloaded the Revit Suite install files, and repaired/installed the VCRedistr files in the "3rd Party" folder of the install directory, and it worked!
