AutoCAD has a setting to print True Type Fonts <as graphics> for PDFs (see attached), causing any font to be printable even if it's not loaded on the computer opening the PDF. Is there anything like this for Revit (2015)?
My boss insists on using Trajan, which is not a standard font, and we recently had prints sent out for reproduction, and they came back with the wrong font, since the print shop does not have Trajan. Thats how we discovered the issue, but now have realized that anyone we send Revit PDFs to will see it wrong unless they have our font.
There is a setting in the PDF preferences to "Rely on System fonts", and even though their explaination would lead you to believe it would work, it doesn't. (See attached)
We are able to bring it into photoshop and reprint it there, but that seems to lose quality and isn't exactly an ideal process.
Has anyone come across this issue and have a solution? (Looking for a solution other than changing what font we use, that will be a fall back...)

I never reaaly looked at this as I usually try to stick to the standard font..for the reasons you describe.
However you might look at the "PDF printer" you use.
For example I use PDF-Creator from PDFFORGE (open source). In their forums it mentions "all font are now embedded automatically".
They also have a second product PDF Architect 2. If you have it installed it also creates a PDF printer. If you look at the settings....
So maybe you could look at different (not necessary above mentioned) PDF Printers and see if they can solve your issues.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

As Enlit suggested, the option to embed fonts in a pdf file is going to be found somewhere in the settings of the pdf printer you use. Open up your Devices/Printers, right click on the pdf printer you're using, click on Print Preferences from the menu that pops up, and look through all the settings to figure out where this can be configured.

Thanks for your suggestion - unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working (See 2nd attached image in original post). The setting that seems like it should do that doesn't. So short of finding a new PDF creator (which isn't up to me, it's upto the office) I might be at a dead end.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't get to pick the PDF creator that my office uses, but I'll mention this to the higher-ups and see if anything can be done! If it were up to me, I'd just change the font to a standard, but we're switching from CAD to Revit, and my boss want to continue using our office (not-so-) standards.

You aren't diggin far enough into the settings. That option "Rely on System Fonts Only;" is for displaying on your screen. It's not related to whether or not fonts get embeded when the file is created.

Thank you!! Although it seems our "font's license does not permit embedding," so it seems we are out of luck no matter what...

I don't know where you got your Trajan font, but if you buy it from Adobe I believe their licensing allows embedding.
