Elevation Tage not loading

So I attempting to change revits default elevation tags to my company's standard tags, but when i load into the project from its family, it doesnt automatically allow me to place one, it doesnt let me place it when i go to "View" and "Elevation," and t doesnt let me "create instance" from the project browser when i go under familys (this method produces a pop up error which says "Can't create this kind of element in this view in the current mode.") 

Ss seen in the image provided, the pink circle shows that the family im looking for (the one circled in orange) is not an option. 

why is that?

how can i place this family when the previous error message comes up?

You will have to use the Edit Type option in the Properties Palette and in here you can change the Elevation marker to a different style not directly from the Project Browser.
