Element visibility in view error message

Hello all;

I am reviewing an older project that was created by someone else, to get a feel for how they did things.  I open a view that has structural joist & beams.

I tried to add another element into this view & I get this error message. (See attached)  What does this mean?  Granted I am still a novice & have been only using the architectural part of Revit 2015.

I tried to just create another view but I still have this happen when I try to insert a structural element (beam) into the floor plan that I am working on.  At one time I had another learning rvt file that had Architectural & Structural discipline views, which did work when I inserted a structural element.  I have not been able to create the same format myself.

This is probably a simple resolution for most of you, but like I said I have only been using Revit a short while (part time).  My new firm is making the change over from Autocad to Revit, which means that I'm still in the autocad world for about 2/3rd of my work day.  I have a version at home & have been learning - keeping up with it on my own time, but something like this I'm just plain ol' stuck.....

Thanks in advance

Jleibold

By default, a beam is placed immediately below the level. By default, the lower limit of the view range of a floor plan is set at the level. Combine these two facts and the result is that new beams are placed outside of the view range. Adjust the bottom of the view range or its depth down low enough to see the beam.

The same thing happens in elevation or section views if the work plane is outside of the view's far clip. It's the same concept.

Chris,

Thanks for the response, yes that did work.

Now would you set that up in template file for a structural view or is that something that is adjusted on an as-needed basis?

Thanks agian,

I'm not normally a structural guy, so I don't know what common practice might be. But I would set up a template and then use it or not as I see fit.
