Edit topography using the countour lines, not points

Is there a way to edit topography using lines, instead of points?

I find it hard to align the countour lines that are created automatically from the points, it creates weird shapes sometimes and I struggle to find the point that's causing it! Hello.
Unfortunately, you can not edit the lines.
Better way is to use special software with more functions for topography (Civil 3D) and then link it to Revit.

I think it is a workaround for doing what you want:

  1. create a series of Levels or Named Reference Planes ( in an Elevation View) placed at the Z value desired for the isolines of the terrain.
  2. in Site View , create from Architecture > Model Lines ,the curves ( splines or lines+curves) each on the desired height ( Work Plane will be chose for every curve from the previous created Reference Planes/Levels)
  3. once created all the curves (lines) on their appropriate position , Export  to CAD format (dwg). Pay attention to the name of the Layer in which the Model Lines will be exported for CAD (Export > Options> Export Setups DWG/DXF) . You'll need to know this Layer name at the following steps.
  4. In the Revit file in which you want to create the Toposurface ( it could be the same file as that from step 1 ,or not )  , then in Site View:  Insert >Link CAD and load the .dwg file created in step 3. When inserting pay attention to the Units and Layers imported ( choose only the Layer that contains the Model Lines exported in step 3)
  5. go to Massing and Site > Toposurface >Create from Import>Select Import Instance, and select the .dwg file imported in step 4.
  6. use Site Settings to refine the Toposurface
  7. you have now a Toposurface created from Model Lines . There is no need to open  AutoCAD when doing all this...

You an use Graded Region tool to create a new topo based on the perimeter points only, then edit that new topo and add points along the wall at the desired elevations.

Download an Auto Clicker ...that's an app which automates clicking .. then placing points becomes more like tracing over those contour lines. All you will need to do is just input a level and trace the mouse over the line

TIP:  Edit Toposurface and Place Points at ZERO Elevation RELATIVE TO SURFACE on and about the contour line you are trying to "straighten out".  Sometimes, all it takes is 1 point to make the contour look right.   Keep in mind that you can place a point and then slide it around.  As you do, you'll see how it changes to the contour line(s) dynamically.

I just got pinged on this one. Yippee! Imagine my surprise. A four month old thread that I participated in has come back to life and given birth to an "accepted solution".   I had to check it out.
