Edit split wall face boundary after painting a material

Hi, I'm working with the split face tool in Revit 2022.

I split several sections in my interior wall face in order to paint different materials on and tag them.

Then, I needed to make some design changes and I now need to adjust the boundary lines of the split face. 

I keep seeing error msgs ("closed loop"..."does not lie on boundary edge"). 

Am I doing something wrong by trying to move the pink lines in the same way I did to originally draw the split faces?

Or is there a way to more efficiently solve this.

Will I just need to delete all split faces and start over?

Hard to know what cause the error unless we can look at a sample of how you did the split line. Can you upload a sample wall for us to look at?

When you start the Split Face (SF) and pick a face to split, revit will highlight the extents/boundary of the wall or face being split IN ORANGE...the sketch line(s) of the split should cut through from boundary to boundary...For some faces you might need to introduce an interim split before you can achieve the desired (split in 2 steps)...After you place the sketch lines ...switch to 3D view and check if there are loose ends

Happens sometimes with too many joined geometries (example: to columns/beams) which do not entirely cut the wall from base to top

Sounds like the sketch linework isn't contiguous (e.g. a closed loop).  Is the error message accompanied by orange dots highlighting the end points of any of the sketch lines in the View?  If it is a polygonal shape, it might be easier to just delete and redraw the whole thing.  Check the "Chain" box on the Options Bar.

A split face must be bound by a continuous splitting boundary and/or the wall profile.  If your split face does not touch the wall profile then it must be a closed loop.
