Edit Rail Path - U shape along the horizontal plane

OK, so I'm thinking it cannot be done easily but it's been a while since I've investigated so I'll see if someone can confirm!

I'm editing the rail path with a wall extension, so it has a return towards the wall. What I need is another return back in on itself like this:

I can't get it to work but I feel like it should be possible...

so... Possible or no? And would this work with any sort of termination family? What are my options here?

Model a separate railing with only a handrail for the return.

Thanks @ToanDN  - I did know I could do it this way, but I hate having separate railings like this as they're always left behind when changes occur. I ended up creating a railing termination that matched the path I needed.  It isn't a perfect solution either, but it looks great and moves with the railing and is flexible size-wise.
