Trying to figure out how to extrude a spline as a quick way to represent existing topography (and yes I know about the other ways to do topography, haven't been able to master the other methods yet). The books I have and all the tutorials/videos I've looked at refer to the Home tab.  I'm using Revit 2016 (student) and it doesn't seem to have a Home Tab. My version has Architecture, Structure, Systems, Insert, Annotate, Analyse, Massing & Site, Collaborate, View, Manage, Add-Ins and Modify.  No Home.

The books I have are not for the current version of Revit and I'm guessing most of the tutorials are as well.  Is "Home" something that no longer exists in the current version?  Or am I not looking in the right place?

Is extruding a spline something that is even possible in Revit?

Thanks.

I'm not sure I am clear on your usage of the word extrude. In my mind, the word extrude implies you at least have a face to start with.

You can sweep a profile along a spline (the spline used as the swept path). You can use two or more splines and generate a surface between them, and then that surface can be given a thickness like an extrusion would have.

I've been using Revit for every version since 2011. I don't remember ever seeing or reading about a Home tab. The normal topography tools are located on the Massing & Site tab.

Are you an AutoCAD user?

You may be able to get away with substituting the "Home" tab with the "Architecture" tab.

If I were you, I wouldn't try to fake site topography.  I would suggest mastering the site tools as they are in Revit.  Here's a good place to start: http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-7458A5D9-50E1-4989-BED1-9F1CAAC2B91A

I finally found a Youtube tutorial. It's actually just a few clicks to do what I need. As for "fake" topography, I think you misunderstand my purpose here. I already surveyed the slope my self and build an entire topography in Autocad.  I have no trouble importing that into Revit. I just need a quicky informal drawing showing the minor excavations I need to do -- certainly doesn't justify redoing it in Autocad or going through the laborious and time-consuming process provided in Revit.

Yes, extruding in Revit turns out to be quite simple once I found a proper tutuorial. Sweep and spline would work too I think, but now that I know how, it's so simple to draw a line and a few clicks turns it into the quick form I need.  Took a while as the audio doesn't come through on this particular Youtube video; it seems to have been recorded at double speed. Other Youtube videos work fine and have audio, but I've noticed that quite a few Revit tutorials are messed up in this way. Same on both my Mac and Windows machines; also when downloaded and played back in VLC, Quicktime Player and FInal Cut Pro.  Odd.  I slowed it down in VLC and was able to follow along without audio.

As far as I can tell in Revit 2016 (which includes architecture, structure and MEP) the "Architecture" tab replaces the "Home" tab. Not sure it that applies to everything that would have been in the home tab, but so far, it seems to.
